Quattro has worked over a number of years on a series of projects for the school.

Initially we were selected to undertake a feasibility study to explore layout options for school expansion; this appointment resulted in a planning consent to extend the existing 70 place school to meet the needs of 100 pupils and providing specialist post 16 unit. Through close consultation with the school community, Quattro has skillfully reorganised the existing building, adding classrooms, a new hall and specialist areas while creating a linked but clear separate identity for the post 16 building.

In order to achieve a sustainable low energy building, early design work was carried out with the M&E consultants to allow the environmental modelling to test and influence the building form and orientation. A sustainable approach was adopted with the design achieving high levels of insulation, an airtight structure with controlled natural ventilation throughout.

The design specified local materials for external cladding and facilities for a biomass boiler, water conserving fittings and waste management. Carbon positive ‘Hemcrete’ was trialled in the construction of the nursery block.
