Mickleton Primary and Nursery School
Quattro’s design for this 4-class primary school and nursery compliments its rural location on a greenfield site at the edge of a Cotswold village. The layout is loosely based on the vernacular form of farm buildings with the buildings forming an enclosed courtyard playground. A limited palette of external materials has been used: untreated cedar boarding, recon masonry and through coloured render with standing seam Aluzinc and recon slate roofing.
Environmental features included high levels of insulation, natural ventilation, and good levels of natural lighting. The building consists of a series of masonry blocks with lightweight timber frame wrapped around circulation.
Former pupils participated in a rural skills training scheme assisting in the preparation and installation of timber products used in the fencing and landscaping.
