The Terrace Theatre, Bristol Zoo Gardens
Quattro have created a delightful pavilion at the heart of the historic Bristol Zoo Gardens. The Terrace Theatre was designed through a series of collaborative workshops with consultants, contractor and zoo staff all contributing inspiration; an overlapping two stage tender process allowed the entire design and construction to take place within an astonishingly short six month period.
The construction minimizes environmental impact: the primary structure is timber incorporating high levels of insulation and natural stonework provides strategic thermal mass for an “animal room”. The use of planted sedum on the intriguing triangular roof creates interest at the same time as enhancing eco-diversity.
