Queen Elizabeth Hospital School
Quattro was selected by Queen Elizabeth Hospital School (QEH) through limited competition to design a new build science laboratory and ceramics studio on a very challenging site in the centre of Bristol.
The site is steeply sloping, adjacent to listed school buildings and scheduled ancient monuments and overlooking a listed Victorian terrace. There were significant planning, conservation and resident issues together with buildability, budget and access challenges.
Planning permission was successfully granted in September 2014 following a collaborative and iterative design process. The project was completed in August 2016 receiving high acclaim from both the school and main contractor for overcoming the initial design challenges and for its intelligent use of natural materials and building form, which complement and enhance its historically sensitive setting.
Quattro implemented their expert knowledge of BIM modelling throughout this project to ensure it was developed to a high standard.
