Challenge
Wyre Forest Community Housing Group purchased The Silverwoods site in 2013 keen to maximise the development potential.
Quattro’s challenge, working closely with the Community Housing Team and Spruce Interior Design, was to offer enhanced spaces, specifically intended as not only a home, but also a secure and stimulating environment where residents could experience a wide range of on-site social opportunities and amenities, such as; restaurant and café bar, lounge and cinema, hair and beauty salon, landscaped gardens with opportunity ‘to grow your own’, guest suite; free Wi-Fi in communal areas, entertainment, events and weekly activities.

Solution
The resulting design has 100 one- and two-bedroom apartments with communal facilities on four levels and a separate 10 apartments over two storeys for adults with learning difficulties. This is marketed as an affordable scheme for over 55’s, restricted to residents living in the Wyre Forest district.
Each apartment was designed with maximum flexibility, an outside space of either a patio or balcony and a main living space encompassing kitchen, dining and sitting room. The apartments were designed to accommodate mobility needs, with adaptability for individual requirements. Integrated technology provides ‘peace of mind’ to residents, carers and family alike, with a discrete 24-hour call system secure entry phone system and 24/7 monitoring security system.
The principle focus of all aspects of the design and care delivery process was to ensure a contemporary lifestyle was always on offer, allowing residents to maximise their independence with choice and dignified living at Berrington Court.
The popularity of this development has resulted in Wyre Forest Community Group purchasing the adjacent site and have recently gained planning permission for a further 65 apartments to be developed. The intention is for the new intake of over 55’s to utilise the generous communal spaces provided by the Berrington Court Extra Care and to ensure a younger demographic is present to provide a balance within this vibrant community.
