Challenge
Christ Church C of E Primary is an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ school with a high demand for places. Due to its popularity, the school was in need of a new dining hall and external play area after their existing facilities, now being replaced, were deemed unfit for purpose. The existing accommodation was located away from the main school and suffered from an outdated building fabric which became too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
Receipt of CIF funding was vital in order to make the replacement building a reality; on a constrained urban site and near to a conservation area, the outcome was considered to be nigh on impossible. Recognising Quattro’s excellent track record in securing CIF funding, our specialist Education Architects were appointed to lead the CIF bid process resulting in great success.

Solution
Quattro successfully secured CIF funding for the project which will see the challenges imposed by the tight site overcome by constructing the new BB103 compliant building on the existing playground. This will allow the replacement facilities to be directly connected to the main school subsequently improving safeguarding by consolidating the school into one block. The demolished building will then be reinstated to create the lost playground facilities.
With a tight budget, Quattro incorporated a phased approach to the works that will ensure completion is achieved within the funding allocated by the ESFA. This phasing ensures minimal disruption to the school.
Christ Church C of E, all-inclusive Primary School are looking forward to works starting on their new multi-function hall and commercial kitchen.
Quattro has created beautiful, inspiring learning spaces for our local school children and teachers. The completion of the final phase, an Early Years extension provides the much-needed creative space for pupils to develop their ideas and the perfect environment to host onsite before and after school wrap around care.

From the outside the school makes a positive contribution to the character of both Colwall village and one of the nation's finest landscapes. The inside offers its inhabitants a first-class learning experience incorporating vistas of that same outstanding and distinctive landscape.

The design process had significant challenges not least the time scales to get an agreed scheme in place. I would like to really compliment the team on how they steered through these so calmly and competently and I hope we can work with them again on future projects.
