Challenge

The Rolls Buildings is an exclusive development of 24 one and two bedroom bespoke apartments, located close to the centre of the historic town of Monmouth, which showcases an exciting blend of modern and traditional features, ideal for those seeking a stylish home in the town.

The site is situated in an astonishingly beautiful location at the head of the Wye Valley – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and close to the historic Forest of Dean. Monmouth is just two miles from the English border and 36 miles north of Cardiff.

The challenge was to assist Redcliffe in realising their vision to create, within this stunning landscape, stylishly unique and characterful apartments within the renovated former Arts and Crafts hospital. Maximising views, retaining the heritage and charm of the building, whilst creating light, spacious, efficient and low maintenance living spaces, were key design requirements. These apartments formed part of a detailed conversion and refurbishment project, together with some new build apartments, also situated within the grounds.

Solution

Following planning approval, Quattro Design Architects was brought on board to deliver a full and comprehensive construction package to assist in the new build and refurbishment of the development.

We worked closely with the structural engineers to adapt floor plans where required and to best work within the existing building constraints, whilst retaining some original characteristic features, to enhance the offering and preserve the historic features and character of the scheme.

I knew their reputation and skill set from my work with previous employers, to their credit these standards have been maintained. They deliver to program and have the flexibility to respond promptly through out the design and building process.

They are always open to suggestions and commit to providing timely and accurate information, giving us the confidence that key dates will be met, whilst ensuring that the design is both affordable and buildable.

Alan Wooldridge, Special Projects Manager
Kier, Gloucester

We are pleased that we were able to improve upon the target construction period to deliver these much needed affordable homes sooner than anticipated. This project (Kelston Close) is an example of true collaborative working.
