Solution
Working collaboratively with the trust, the wider members of the Design Team and the main Contractor, we were able to deliver the ward refurbishment within an extremely tight timescale. Following the stripping back of the ward to its main structure, we uncovered a number of design challenges, typical of a refurbishment project. Drawing upon our considerable knowledge of designing inpatient facilities in existing buildings, we were successful in overcoming these challenges and creating a more flexible ward with improved dignity and privacy.
Through thoughtful consideration for the location of support spaces, we were also able to reduce the “traveling” distances for staff, creating a more effective and efficient space. The project proved to be a great success, providing an environment to better support patient recovery and healing and facilitating much improved working conditions and practices for staff.
This is one of our older buildings, but this refit will now allow us to offer the latest facilities in Cashes Green Ward, enabling us to provide the best possible care and treatment to patients

The Trust is delighted to see the project finished and open to patients. It’s been no small undertaking! With the involvement of staff and design team we have planned out everything to the smallest detail.
