Supporting Education in Gloucestershire
We had a great site visit down at King’s Square today
Organised by Jonathan White, Senior Associate at Quattro and George Hall of E G Carter we met up with a bubble of 3rd year Construction students from Gloucester College. Accompanied by Craig Bloxsome, Lecturer in Construction, the group enjoyed a briefing from Jonathan about the background to this exciting development followed by an engaging tour of the site by E G Carter’s Graham Lammas, Site Manager.
Accompanying the group was Quattro’s Senior Technologist, Winstone Julius, who is in charge of on-site co-ordination and the day to day delivery of this scheme together with E G Carter:
“These students are our future. Covid has meant they have been desk-bound and denied the opportunity to see construction in action. As Craig mentioned, lockdown has meant it’s been over a year since the college has been able to get students out on site – the last time being Quay Side at Shire Hall so it’s great to be able to help out. It’s also good to see some young women today – there are increasing numbers of women entering Construction but there is still some way to go… “
Hamza Atcha, (photographed) who has lived in Gloucester all his life , enjoyed the buzz of activity around the site.
“It’s been like a ghost town round here this last year. It’s so good to see some activity in the centre of town. The Quays have been a recent focus but I’m happy to see the heart of the city is being brought back to life. “
Hamza, in his final year of Construction Level 3 Diploma hopes to pursue a career as as a Building Surveyor,
“It’s great to see the development at this early stage and then be able to come back later and see it when it’s out of the ground…..”
As a growing practice committed to our locality and Gloucester’s economic growth, we have worked closely with Gloucester College over the last 5 years offering placements to Construction students, some of whom have joined our team on a permanent basis. Quattro also supports local Education programmes within Gloucester’s schools and at the University of Gloucestershire, where we have contributed to the content of the new Architecture, Construction and Environmental courses ensuring students are prepared for job prospecting and working life after completing their studies.
As the locally appointed Commercial Architects practice, Quattro is working with E G Carter on the King’s Square redevelopment as part of an £85m Gloucester City revamp. King’s Square is a prominent prestigious project for our local area and once completed will include a hotel and multi-storey car park, as well as the replacement of its ageing buildings with 156 new homes, office space, restaurants and bars.
