Great Oldbury Primary Academy

The brand new 1.5FE primary school and nursery provision in Stonehouse has been designed by Quattro, the Education Architect of choice, with potential for expansion to 2FE.

The new school, designed by Quattro, has taken a fabric-first approach, resulting in an appealing, practical, and highly sustainable design that surpasses building regulations.

The Challenge

The brand new 1.5FE primary school and nursery provision in Stonehouse has been designed by Quattro, the Education Architect of choice, with potential for expansion to 2FE. Working alongside our trusted partner, Robert Hitchins, Great Oldbury Primary Academy’s design is Quattro’s second for the Gloucestershire Learning Alliance Trust (GLA). It forms part of the S106 funded Great Oldbury mixed-use scheme, which also includes approximately 1,300 homes, a new health centre, local shops, and sports facilities.

Set in a stunning countryside location near the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the new school’s design reflects the rural setting and traditional exterior features of the wider Great Oldbury housing development. The school’s opening has been phased, with Early Years, Foundation Stage, and Year 1 pupils attending initially before eventually welcoming 420 students aged 2-11.

Our Solution

The new school, designed by Quattro, has taken a fabric-first approach, resulting in an appealing, practical, and highly sustainable design that surpasses building regulations. The school’s design prioritises passive design strategies, such as natural ventilation, night cooling, and maximising natural daylight, to minimise its carbon footprint.

The school’s design offers a modern interpretation of the traditional “barn in the rural landscape,” resulting in a beautiful educational environment that’s now open for the children of Great Oldbury and the Gloucestershire Learning Alliance Trust to enjoy. The school’s stunning location makes it a wonderful legacy for future generations.

Applying our extensive Educational Architecture experience Quattro’s school building design is intended to achieve the Gloucestershire Learning Alliance Trust’s aims for the new provision to enable children to achieve their “full potential academically and personally and to be the very best that they can be.” A wonderful addition to this exciting new community.
