The existing accommodation, built as part of the Beeches Estate to the East of the town, dated back to the 1950’s and was no longer fit for purpose for Bromford customers. As specialists in housing and residential architecture, we were appointed to provide modern, warm, efficient and safe housing.

As part of a wider investment into the Beeches Estate, the project was seen as a spearhead for the regeneration of particularly problem housing stock and of the wider Beeches Estate area.

Through extensive consultation with Bromford, existing residents, the wider public and the Local Planning Authority, a proposal for the replacement of the existing housing was developed. This largely followed the existing street patterns but was composed of smaller blocks of semi-detached houses and two-storey flats in keeping with the existing surrounding built scale, ensuring a street aspect for all and within more secluded cul-de-sac arrangements.

All site constraints were assessed including, the protection of neighbouring resident amenity, the protection and enhancement of the limited site ecology and tree scape, as well as maintaining existing access routes and rights of way. All units were afforded with secure private amenity and suitable parking arrangements and the scheme was designed to incorporate Secured by Design features throughout.

A traditional yet considered elevational approach was adopted through traditional pitched roofs, whilst specifying a mixed use of brick throughout the elevations, intended to provide interest and contrast within the scheme and within the wider locality.

Following a successful feasibility and planning process, Quattro collaborated further with the Design Team and Contractor to provide working drawings and assistance during construction phases. The project was completed in 2020.
