137 Southgate Street – Conservation

This project was part funded by the “Southgate Street Townscape Heritage Initiative”. The scheme was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and administered by Gloucester City Council. Due to the downturn in the economy and lack of investment in the area over the years it has resulted in a decline in condition of the older buildings, many of which are Grade II Listed, and the street scene of Southgate Street. Specialising in architecture and conservation, our team were the clear choice for this exciting project.

Structural repairs are required to many of the buildings and architectural detailing needs to be reinstated. The scheme was set up to improve the setting of Southgate Street and resolve these issues.

By responding sensitively and appropriately to the Grade II Listing context of the building and street, we were able to achieve Listed Building Consent for the following:

• Structural repairs to parapet, chimney and roof Replacement of all windows and doors to the front of the property.
• By using slimlite double glazing we met both the heritage criteria and also the energy efficient standards. The palistar detailing was repaired and a significant area of render replaced. The section of rusticated render was also repaired.  

Quattro Design Architects, due to our deep understanding of architecture and conservation, was appointed to carry out RIBA Stages 1 – 7. The works were carried out under a JCT Minor Works Contract and Quattro Design Architects were Contract Administrators. The works were completed in July 2020.
