Quattro was employed to project manage and carry out the consultation, leading to the provision of documentation suitable for the tendering of the redevelopment to the HCA DPP.

Our skilled designers created a preferred option based on the key factors for success. The option was developed in detail with the residents prior to opening up the consultation process to the wider community.

The Challenge

The objective for our residential housing architects was to increase the local provision of social housing and delivering environmental improvements. There had been a history of abortive consultations in the past leading to a failure to agree a viable solution that was acceptable to both the residents and the local community. Secondary to the primary objectives of Stroud District Council (SDC), we were to deliver a mixed tenure layout that would be commercially attractive to a housebuilder who would be able to deliver the sales element of the development whilst handing back 50% of the dwellings to SDC as affordable housing stock.

Quattro’s residential housing architects were employed to project manage and carry out the consultation, leading to the provision of documentation suitable for the tendering of the redevelopment to the HCA DPP.

Working with officers and stakeholders of Stroud District Council we gathered information regarding the local community and the issues that had arisen from the previous work undertaken. A project plan was agreed involving going back to first principles and maximising transparency throughout the consultation process.

Our Solution

Three easy to understand non-technical option plans were created based on the information and feedback gathered during consultation. Residents were briefed on the practical and economic issues incorporated within the options and it was made clear that none of the options was intended as a potential solution in its own right. Residents engaged in a constructive dialogue, which identified the key factors for a successful solution.

Our skilled designers created a preferred option based on the key factors for success. The option was developed in detail with the residents prior to opening up the consultation process to the wider community.

The successful preferred option, together with information collected during consultations was presented to the project board and formed the basis of the formal final report, which was put to SDC’s Cabinet.

A scheme largely following the footprint of our final option was submitted and approved by Stroud District Council. Subsequently we worked closely with Lovell to deliver the development.
